Herts WWP Information for Managers

Managers and supervisors: do your staff meet the Hertfordshire County Council Parenting Support Minimum Standards?

Free City & Guilds Accredited WWP Training Units:

  • This training directly supports Hertfordshire County Council Parenting Support Minimum Standards, which cover any individual and organisation that provides formal parenting support, either as one to one or group based support
  • The training is available free to anyone in Hertfordshire working directly with parents
  • A range of different courses offering combinations of units from the Level 3 Work with Parents qualification are available to support learners and build on existing qualifications and experience
  • Priority given to frontline staff without a relevant qualification at Qualifications Credit Framework Level 3

What will this mean for managers and workplace supervisors?

  • A Work with Parents Award in combination with HCC Core Induction Training and training in evidence based parenting programmes is recommended as the minimum required for delivery of parenting services.
  • Learners have to attend between 5 and 8 full days training (depending on the course they are attending), and complete 5 hours of additional study between sessions and attend an optional portfolio building day
  • Participants will need to complete a learner contract signed by their work place manager, and show committed to the course.  Due to the limited numbers of places, charges will apply if learners drop-out of the training (see the Learner Contract for future details)
  • Managers are expected to assist the assessment of learners by providing witness statements to support the portfolio of evidence; written, and where necessary telephone guidance will be provided by Family Matters Institute to support you in this!

How will this benefit your team?

These training courses provide essential knowledge and skills required to work effectively with parents, and support parents in their parenting support role, in a wide range of settings. The WWP qualification is for learners either in a paid or voluntary capacity, and comprises a practical course involving a portfolio of short essays, personal reflective reports, records and observations of practice. For courses involving Unit 308 there is a requirement to run a parenting course to complete the portfolio and ideally this should be run concurrently with the training.

What units are on offer?

Five different unites are on offer to support learners in achieving a Level 3 Award, and build towards a Level 3 Certificate. Click here for more information

The Family Matters Institute is also able to support learner progression to Level 4 Award in Work with Parents outside of this funded offer.
