In accordance with Hertfordshire County Council’s Minimum Standard for Parenting Support (June 2010) the Childhood Support Service within HCC has funded access a number of courses, which help practitioners who work with parents,to achieve units from the Level 3 Work with Parents qualification. The courses are being delivered FREE to practitioners between September 2011 and March 2012, in a multi-agency environment.
What courses are available?
Five different courses are on offer, that support learners to achieving a Level 3 Work with Parents Award, and build towards a Level 3 Certificate:
- Supporting Families in the Community A full Level 3 Award for people supporting parents on a 1-1 basis without a relevant QCF Level 3 qualification, comprising units 300, 304 and 309. Delivered over 7 days. ** APPLICATIONS CLOSED - OVERSUBSCRIBED **
- Supporting Families and Facilitating Groups Level 3 Award for people supporting parents within groups as well as 1-1 without a relevant QCF Level 3 qualification, comprising units 300, 304 and 308.

- So you want to run a Parenting Course? A top up course to a Level 3 Award for people who have already completed unit 300, comprising units 308 and 304.
** Limited to two cohorts of 16 places ** ** FIRST COHORT CLOSED**
- Families Going Forward The mandatory Unit 300. Build & Maintain Relationships with Parents, for people who have not yet accessed it.
** Limited to one cohort of 16 places ** ** RESERVE PLACES ONLY AVAILABLE - PICK AS SECOND CHOICE **
- Valuing Diversity & Supporting Family Change and Transition Units 309 and 315 for people who have already completed the Level 3 Award without these units and who want to complete further learning and build Credits towards a Level 3 Certificate.
** Limited to one cohort of 16 places **
Course organisation
- Study days run from 9.30am to 4.30pm usually held fortnightly or weekly (see specific courses for number of study days)
- About 5 hours of home study is required between sessions, with interim deadlines for submission of portfolio work (particularly relevant to Options 1, 2, & 4)
- Optional but recommended additional day to support portfolio building
- Delivered in cohorts of 16 learners by experienced parenting practitioners / tutors
- Facilitated by supportive trainers with extensive experience of working in partnership with parents and delivering evidence based parenting interventions
- Limited places are available so charges will apply if learners drop-out of the course (see learner contract)

Booking
Demand for these training opportunities is expected to be high. For this reason priority will be given to:
- practitioners who are working with parents and families in universal and targeted services (level 1 and 2 of Hertfordshire’s Meeting the Needs document)
- practitioners in a role, where there is at least 14 hours per rata per week direct contact with parents / families
- practitioners who are not already level 3 qualified in relevant subject
- practitioners who are working in geographic areas with high levels of social care referrals and economic disadvantage, according to 2011 Indices of Multiple Deprivation and Income Deprivation Affecting Children Index
- practitioners who are trained in an evidence based parenting programme e.g. Incredible Years, Family Link’s Nurturing Programme, Strengthening Families Strengthening Communities (for practitioners accessing unit 308)
