Managers and supervisors: are you meeting the National Occupational Standards for working with parents?

Work With Parents Level 3 Award

Work With Parents
  • Available to anyone in Hertfordshire working directly with parents and running parenting courses or groups
  • 75 free places - booking now for courses starting from January 2010
  • Priority given to frontline staff without a relevant qualification at QCF Level 3 or above who are currently running parenting groups.
  • Meets National Occupational Standards for Work with Parents
  • Supports Herts proposed updated parenting support quality standards due to be published early 2010
  • QCF Level 3 Award (WWP 3599) accredited by City & Guilds

What will this mean for managers and workplace supervisors?

  • The Work with Parents Award in combination with HCC Core Induction Training and training in evidence based parenting programmes is recommended by NAPP as the minimum required for delivery of parenting services.
  • Course involves 10 full days training (either fortnightly or weekly), an additional 5 hours of study between sessions and an optional 11th portfolio building day.
  • Participants will need a letter of agreement from their work place manager, who will also be expected to assist in the work place assessment by providing witness statements to support the portfolio of evidence.

How will this benefit your team?

This qualification provides essential knowledge and skills required to work effectively with parents and support parents in their parenting support role, in a wide range of settings. The WWP qualification is for learners either in a paid or voluntary capacity, and comprises a practical course involving a portfolio of short essays, personal reflective reports, records and observations of practice. There is a requirement to run a parenting course to complete the portfolio and ideally this should be run concurrently with the training.

The units covered by the WWP Award in Hertfordshire are:

  • Unit 300: Build and maintain relationship in work with parents (6 credits)
  • Unit 304: Effective communication with parents (3 credits)
  • Unit 308: Work with groups of parents (3 credits)

The credits obtained by completing the WWP Level 3 Award can go towards the WWP Level 3 Certificate.
