The role |
Family Matters Institute is looking for an experienced Trainer to join our staff team, reporting to the Workforce Development Manager. As a Trainer you will support FMI training programme, delivering multi agency training to staff and volunteers working across the Children’s Workforce i.e. anyone working with children, young people or families. FMI is a City & Guild’s & OCN centre currently offering accreditation at level 3 on some of its courses.
FMI is a registered Charity working primarily in Christian based projects. The office location is based at Moggerhanger Park near Bedford.
The role will be varied and the candidate will be able to work on multiple tasks at any one time, which will involve the following elements:
- To deliver and facilitate multi-agency / generic training to staff and volunteers across the children’s workforce e.g. Common Induction Standards, CAF, Safeguarding, Work with Parents
- To work under the direction of the Workforce Development Manager to support the development of quality training provision in order to meet the needs of the customers.
- Maintain knowledge of current practice, national and local initiatives including relevant national and international developments and ensure that current thinking is disseminated through training programmes.
- Work in effective partnership with both internal and external customers.
- To contribute towards the audit, planning and evaluation of the training and development opportunities.
- To support the development of creative projects for identified groups of practitioners in order that best practice models can be developed.
- To monitor the impact of training.
- To produce reports on training programmes as required.
- It is expected the successful candidate will have use of a car as there is a requirement to travel to various training venues (often remote from public transport)
- To support day to day needs of the organisation as directed by any member of Senior Management Team (SMT)

Key skills |
The following are the key skills that will be needed:
- Excellent working knowledge of the Children’s Workforce including relevant legislation and guidance, and multi-agency & integrated working practices and processes e.g. Children Act, ECM, CAF, Safeguarding, Information Sharing, Common Core of Skills & Knowledge
- Experience of training delivery to practitioners within the Children’s Workforce.
- At least 3 years experience as a frontline practitioner within the children’s workforce e.g. social care, education, health, youth, voluntary sector etc
- Appropriate professional qualifications & experience relevant to the role
- Adult education qualification e.g. PTLLs (will be required for delivery of some courses)
- Assessment or verification/moderation qualification and experience e.g. A1 or V1 (desirable)
- Ability to work effectively with both internal and external partners.
- ICT skills including MS PowerPoint, Word and Excel 2007
- Excellent planning and organisational skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work flexibly across a wide range of contexts
- Self motivation and the ability to work independently
- Training in evidence based parenting programmes (desirable)
- At least a rudimentary understanding of ‘Think Family’ agenda and ‘2020 Workforce Strategy’

Conditions |
The salary offered will be in the range £20,000-£25,000 (pro rata based on 37.5 hour week), depending on skills and experience. This salary is based on NJC scale 22 to 31.
15 - 22.5 hours per week (days negotiable but subject to client needs). When additional hours are worked by agreement with a member of the SMT, time off will be given in lieu (TOIL), overtime is not normally paid.
