The role

Family Matters Institute is looking for a Communications/Content Manager to undertake day-to-day content and editorial tasks associated with www.Dadtalk.co.uk - an information, advice and networking site for dads and more generally, for Family Matters Institute (FMI).

The site Dadtalk.co.uk aims to promote fathers relationships with their children, resourcing and supporting them in this vital role of being 'dad'. The site targets any man in a fathering role and at any season of parenting, and has developed to incorporate free legal and financial advice during its first 13 months of operation.

Funding from the Department for Children, Schools and Families has been confirmed until March 2011, reviewed annually against key performance indicators. This post is linked to the project and is therefore offered as a fixed period to March 2011.

FMI is a registered Charity working primarily in Christian based projects. The office location is at Moggerhanger Park near Bedford.

The role will be varied and the candidate will be able to work on multiple tasks at any one time, which will involve the following elements:

  • Create, develop and manage content for both the FMI and Dadtalk web presence including daily tips and a monthly newsletter.
  • Coordinate Public Relations for both FMI and Dadtalk, representing Dadtalk at publicity events.
  • Coordinate web projects across departments.
  • In conjunction with FMI web consultant, maintain a consistent look and feel throughout all FMI websites
  • Working with a cross-departmental team, maintain and develop the master content calendar for all web properties.
  • Copy, edit and proof read web and off line content.
  • Oversee and advise freelance writers and ‘recruited’ bloggers.
  • Keep current with emerging web technologies through relevant blogs, listservs, and other sources.
  • Assure web-based information is archived for future needs and reference.
  • Liaise with Dadtalk Coordinator to track and report on content metrics.
  • Support the day to day needs of the organisation as directed by any member of Senior Management Team (SMT)

Key skills

The following are the key skills needed for this role:

  • Proven editorial skills including proof reading and the writing of short articles, ideally in a relevant field.
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills with experience of public relations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Basic Adobe Photoshop skills.
  • Proven ability to build consensus and work effectively within a cross-departmental team.
  • 2-3 years experience managing content and production for high traffic websites (desirable)
  • Strong ICT skills including MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint 2007.
  • Strong understanding of websites and social networking media and experience of ‘blogging’ e.g. Twitter, Facebook, Word Press.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Self motivation and the ability to work independently
  • Degree in English, Journalism, Technical Writing or a related field (desirable)

Conditions

The salary offered will be in the range £20,000-£25,000 (pro rata based on 37.5 hour week), depending on skills and experience. This salary is based on NJC scale 22 to 31

15 - 22.5 hours per week (days negotiable). When additional hours are worked by agreement with a member of the SMT, time off will be given in lieu (TOIL), overtime is not normally paid.
