The ILM Level 5 Award in Leadership and Management Skills has been designed to give practising or aspiring middle managers a solid foundation for their formal development in this role. This is a concise qualification made up of two mandatory units. In the first unit, 'Understanding the management role', participants explore the nature of the middle management role and critically evaluate their own managerial ability. In the second mandatory unit, 'Assessing your own leadership capability and performance', participants explore leadership styles within their organisation, the commitment and motivation of their teams and their own ability to motivate teams to meet organisational goals. The programme will be delivered through training workshops with practical output exercises covering the following topics: √ Organizational purpose, mission and values, stakeholders, structure & functional areas √ The role of management, leadership vs management and leadership theories √ The specific responsibilities of middle managers in enabling an organisation to achieve its goals √ Communication and interpersonal relationships and the affect on managerial performance in the workplace √ Influence & motivation, influence and delegation √ Evaluating personal development opportunities to improve own management √ Emotional Intelligence √ Assertive Behaviour, Managing Difficult Situations There are no formal entry requirements but participants will normally be either practising or aspiring middle managers with opportunity to meet the assessment demands and have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme. Benefits of attending √ Recognised national qualification for managers. √ ILM ‘Learner Membership’ status giving access to a range of benefits. √ Practical workshops. √ Opportunity to study for further qualifications How is the course be assessed? Assessment will primarily consist of a work-based project which will both seek to enhance the learners understanding of their own organisation, develop and practice interpersonal, communication, planning and research skills of a manager and a reflective review. Candidates may be expected to complete pre-course work 1 week before the start of the course, and will be supported to complete the qualification within 1 month of the course wherever possible. Learners will be provided with tutorial support as part of the programme. How long is the course? The course can either be run over 6-7 full training days or one evening a week for 14 weeks (3 hours per week 6-9 pm or 7-10 pm) either at Moggerhanger Park, Bedfordshire or your own venue. Tutors are practiced managers with significant experience of management and leadership in the Children & Families sector. The Award is 10 credits, which roughly equates to 34 guided learning hours and therefore it is expected learners will need to spend 3 hours per week on top of the class-room time in order to complete the assessments and gain the qualification. Progression to Level 5 Certificate In Leadership & Management The Award is a stand alone qualification made up of two mandatory units. Learners have the opportunity to direct progress to the Level 5 Certificate in Leadership & Management by completing a number of optional units. The Certificate requires learners to achieve 21 credits, where the Award gives them 10 credits towards this. Learners that have already successfully completed the Level 4 Award in Management
will only need to complete the 'Assessing your own leadership
capability and performance' module to achieve this Award; such
learners will then have 14 credits overall, which can be topped up to a
Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management with additional Units
(21 Credits). Click here to see FMI's Leadership & Management Level 5 Certificate |
