LET’S CELEBRATE BEING A DAD THIS FATHERS DAYThe Dad Pledge is launched – ‘Your kids need YOU’
The online social networking site for dads - Dadtalk.co.uk - launches a campaign championing fatherhood and supporting fathers in the most important job they’ll ever do – being a Dad... “Every year fathers day comes around and I get fed up of articles that question the point of fathers day - saying it’s all a commercialised scam. What is it about the lack of celebration and thanks in the UK today? At DadTalk we want to celebrate and honour ‘Dads’ for the crucial role they play in raising kids,” said Matt Buttery, CEO of the Family Matters Institute one of the organisations behind Dadtalk.co.uk “Fathers Day is not about the presents ... its about the presence!” Matt adds. “Being a father is tough ‘We must have the patience of saints, the wit of magicians, and the courage of a bear’ NOT TO MENTION balancing work and life AND for many only seeing their kids once or twice a week....” “Calvin Coolidge, the 30th US President said that the purpose of Fathers Day was to ‘impress upon fathers the full measure of their obligations’.....” “What an interesting twist: Fathers day is not for the kids but the FATHERS! As both men and society we think we need to be reminded about what a ‘father’ is and fathers day is a great opportunity to do just that,” Matt says Dadtalk.co.uk and Mighty Men of Valour invite all Dads to sign up to THE PLEDGE and promise to be a Father for life this fathers day. “The Dadpledge is simple but challenging,” says Frederick Clark of Mighty Men of Valour “I PLEDGE: To be there for you always: emotionally, physically and morally because you are my child and I love you.” The pledge is a simple promise to your kids to be there – its backed up by daily e-tips, an online toolbox and a ‘pubtalk’ forum to chat about the high and lows of fatherhood on the Dadtalk website. Dadtalk and Mighty Men of Valour are aiming to get 1 million Dads to sign the pledge by the Olympics in 2012, you can sign up at www.dadtalk.co.uk. ‘Anyone can be a father but it takes someone special to be a dad.’ - ENDS -
