Level 3 Award (Units 300, 304, 309)
Supporting Families in the Community is a course which provides an opportunity for practitioners to achieve the full Level 3 Award in Work with Parents. The course is for practitioners working with parents and families who do not hold a Level 3 or 4 Award in Work with Parents.
It is a seven day training course that explores the following topics:
- The National Occupational Standards for Work with Parents.
- Partnership working: strengths based and evidence based practice.
- Working with diverse families in an inclusive and non-judgemental way.
- Understanding the socio-economic factors that impact on families.
- Reflecting on how to identify family strengths, needs and concerns within a community context.
- Understanding change and transitions theory.
- Supporting families through traumatic and stressful life events.
- Working with families in high emotion states.
- Building on the knowledge needed and practical skills required in engaging effectively with families: contracting through creating clear boundaries and expectations; identifying strengths and needs; creating goal based action plans; coaching families to overcome obstacles and challenges; reviewing and celebrating change and progress and effective completion and closure.
- Effective signposting within a multi-agency environment.
The course covers three units of the Level 3 Work with Parents qualification and provides an opportunity for practitioners to achieve the Level 3 Award in Work with Parents (12 credits) accredited by City and Guilds: - Unit 300 Build and Maintain Relationships in Work with Parents (six credits).
- Unit 304 Effective Communication with Parents (three credits).
- Unit 309 Provide Services that meet Parents’ needs (three credits).
