TARGET AUDIENCE

It is for practitioners working with parents and families who have already completed or are working towards Unit 300 Build and Maintain Relationships in Work with Parents.

LEARNER OUTCOMES

Valuing family Diversity & Meeting Needs is a Level 3 course, that learners can combine with Unit 300 to achieve a Level 3 Award or use as building block towards achieving the Level 3 Certificate. It is for practitioners working with parents and families who have already completed or are working towards Unit 300 Build and Maintain Relationships in Work with Parents, and is accredited by City and Guilds. It is a two day training course that explores the following topics:

  • acknowledging parents’ feelings and experiences

  • recognise and develop parents’ strengths

  • promote the value and recognition of diversity in society and in parenting roles

  • work with parents to overcome barriers to parenting support that individual families may face

  • reflecting on own practice in delivering services that value and respect parents

  • key theories and factors which underpin the provision of services that meet parents’ needs

  • how to work with parents to agree their needs

  • how to work with parents to explore the effect of challenges and change

  • how to develop strategies to manage challenge and change

  • how to reflect on own practice in providing services that meet parents’ needs

 

OVERVIEW

The course covers two units of the Level 3 Work with Parents qualification and provides an opportunity for practitioners to achieve the Level 3 Award in Work with Parents (12 credits) accredited by City and Guilds or build towards a Level 3 Certificate in Work with Parents (30 credits):

  • Unit 309 Provide Services that meet Parents’ needs (three credits).

  • Unit 315 Deliver services that value and respect parents (three credits)
